Plus Camping Michelangelo

Sitting high on a hillside Plus Camping Michelangelo overlooks the beautiful city of Florence and the river Arno.

Plus Camping Michelangelo has everything a backpacker could want from a hostel in Florence - laundry, internet point, supermarket, cash point, 24 hour security, big screen satellite TV, luggage storage and more with a terrific terrace bar.

It really is a hostel with a difference, no curfew, no cramped rooms, nightly entertainment and sensational views.

Our accommodation is totally unique to youth hostels. We use comfy three person house tents instead of crowded dorms, and these include beds, blankets and pillows. These can be booked as private or shared and are lockable for security purposes.

More of an oasis than a hostel in the middle of Florence, the campsite is close to all the major tourist attractions, restaurants, bars and night clubs; these can be easily reached on foot or by local transport.

PLUS pride ourselves in providing clean, comfortable and safe accommodation throughout Italy. We hope that you enjoy your stay with us.

Accomodation

PLUS Camping Michelangelo is unique in combining youth hostel type accommodation with a camping location, providing private or shared (mixed) options much like a dorm room with 3 comfy beds, blankets and pillows.

All house tents can be locked for security and security boxes are available at reception.

Bed linen and towels can be rented on site.

For those bringing their own tent there is ample space to pitch it.

You are welcome to bring your own camper or caravan and we provide you with electricity and water connections at each pitch.

For groups wanting to stay with us (minimum 20 persons) we offer special discounted rates as well as deals on breakfast lunch and dinner. Enquiries should be directed to info@plushostels.com. Booking in advance is recommended!

Facilities

MONEY MATTERS

You are able to use credit cards (Visa or MasterCard) to pay for your accommodation provided the bill totals to more than €100 otherwise please pay by cash or by travellers cheque. Our staff at reception are happy to change international currency to the Euro. On site there is an ATM/Cash machine for those wanting to withdraw cash.

INTERNET

Our Internet point is situated right beside the Terrace bar and offers free internet booking for all onward hostel accommodation through to any other PLUS property through plushostels

SUPERMARKET

The supermarket is situated below the bar. It is stocked with all the basic essentials on a daily basis. As well as the basics indulge yourself with all the good Italian things such as great Chianti, fresh Parmesan Cheese with Prosciuto (yummy) and fresh locally baked bread.

If you are feeling a little home sick we may just have what you are looking for in the way of comfort food as the market is also stocked with a large variety of International goodies.

BATHROOM FACILITIES

Due to the nature of tent accommodation (obviously we can’t place a bathroom in a tent) there are both separate male and female bathroom and showering facilities available.

We have just renovated the bathrooms to a high standard. If there is no toilet paper or they need cleaning please contact a member of staff.

A little quirk of the toilet facilities is that there is no separate toilet paper for each cubicle . There is however a massive toilet paper dispenser hung in both male and female toilets so make sure you grab some before sitting down.

LAUNDRY FACILITIES

To keep you looking as stylish as the locals we have large 8kg washing and drying machines available.

SECURITY

Your enjoyment and saftey is important to us. All of our tents are lockable and come with a padlock. However like every hostel you should leave your valuables in one of the safety deposit boxes which are available to rent from reception.

There is always security at the entrance to the camping village and security patrols the grounds on a 24hr basis. Please always have your camping pass with you when entering the campground to show to the security guys.

TERRACE BAR

Our bar offers the best panoramic views of any hostel in Florence. Sit back and put your feet up with a cold one looking out over the red tile rooftops and not forgetting of course the Duomo, all that under a big blue Tuscan sky.

The bar is fully stocked and offers light meals such as pizza, rolls and sandwiches.

Location

Plus Camping Michelangelo is located next door to Piazzale Michelangelo and within easy reach of the main attractions such as the Ponte Vecchio, Uffizi Gallery, Piazza Signoria, Palazzo Pitti and the Boboli gardens, either on foot or using the local transport system.

Getting to the camping Village from the Train Station SMN:

As the main Train station in Florence is Firenze SMN, this is almost certainly where you will arrive. After hopping of the train walk to the end of the platform and exit the station on the left, go all the way to the next set of traffic lights and right in front of you you'll find bus top "number 12". This will take you to Piazzale Michelangelo. Alight at stop “ Camping” and you have arrived.

Please ensure that you have bought a bus ticket and to validate it on the bus. The tickets cost €1.20 approximately and are available from the nearby Tabacchi (look for the Blue Sign with a white T hanging outside). They cost €2.00 if you buy it on the bus.

To validate your ticket, simply insert the ticket into the yellow machine on the bus. Once the machine stamps your ticket and hey presto you can travel for 90 minutes on any bus in Florence.

Single bus tickets are valid for 90 mins after validation. There is also the Carta Agila for €10 which is valid for 10 trips or €20 for 20 trips.

For the more energetic - Walking!!! From the Train Station SMN with a Backpack:

The reason we say more energetic is that with a backpack on walking up a hill in 35°C is not exactly everybody’s cup of tea. It’s a great thing to do if you have no backpack and are cruising around Florence sightseeing, but if you want to try it feel free to. Take it from us it's much easier to catch the bus. The walk with a backpack will take 25 minutes and without 10-15 minutes

From Firenze SMN train station cross the Piazza della Stazione and head towards S. Maria del Fiore (Duomo). Just before you reach the Duomo turn right at Piazza San Giovani ( The Baptistery in front of the Duomo). You are now walking down Via Roma. Continue down Via Roma passing P.za della Republica until you reach the Ponte Vechhio and the Arno river. (If you miss Via Roma Walk down to the Uffizi Gallery Walk through the piazza until you reach the Arno river turn right and the Ponte Vecchio is on the right.

Cross the river and take the first left along Via Lungario Torrigianni until you reach the next bridge. Turn right here and walk to the end.(there should be a piazza on your left) Turn right and follow road around to the right, The name of the road changes to Via dell Croci continue along the road unti you see a big set of steps on the left hand side of the road. Walk up these steps as they will take you to Piazzle Michelangelo where you will see the first of two replica Davids’ in Florence. Turn left walk along 100 metres and Plus camping Michelangelo is on the left. Congratulations Everest is next!

If you’re taking a short break and are arriving at Florence airport simply catch the Terravision shuttle bus from the Airport. The Bus’s final destination is Firenze SMN. Once arriving simply follow the above instructions.

From the Airport catch the train departing from the airport (Buy your train ticket from the desk on the right after exiting from departures, although if you are arriving late some times it is easier to catch the Terrevission shuttle). They both end up at Firenze SMN station. Then follow the above instructions.
